Zend Feed

This article explains basics of content syndications and demonstrates how to use Zend Framework Zend_Feed classes for consuming a news feed of your site.

What I want to aggregate are Swedish web development and web entrepeneur blogs. I like the planet-planet concept that for example planet-php use. (Though I don't think planet-php use python...) Conveniently I had this idn domain, översikt.se, lying around which I haven't used up until now. As is normal nowadays (for me at least) I used Zend Framework to build the site. It was the first time I used Zend_Feed class. I works like a charm.

Zend_Feed provides functionality for consuming RSS and Atom feeds. It provides a natural syntax for accessing elements of feeds, feed attributes, and entry attributes. Zend_Feed also has extensive support for modifying feed and entry structure with the same natural syntax, and turning the result back into XML. In the future, this modification support could provide support for the Atom Publishing Protocol.

In parts 1 and 2, we discuss the goals behind the Zend Framework and show you how to use it to create the beginnings of our online feed reader, creating a form and adding information to a database while getting to know the MVC pattern. In this tutorial, you will see how to use the Zend Framework to implement the online feed reader portion of the application.
